Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony

During the 61st National Convention of the National Montford Point Marine Association, Inc, we will host a special Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony honoring newly discovered Montford Point Marines and their families. This historic event will take place on Friday morning and serves as a powerful reminder of the courage and sacrifice of the nearly 20,000 African American men who trained at Montford Point. We invite members, families, and supporters to join us in Baltimore as we formally recognize these Marines and ensure their legacy continues to be preserved with the dignity and honor it deserves.

17th Annual Montford Point Marine Day Ceremony

& Congressional Gold Medal Presentation

Friday, August 28, 2026

Join us as we celebrate and honor the Montford Point Marines.

The Montford Point Marines were the first African Americans who entered the United States Marine Corps from the period of 1942 to 1949, and trained at the segregated training facility, Montford Point Camp, New River, North Carolina.

During this event, we will also present the Congressional Gold Medal replica to the family of Montford Point Marines, posthumously.

Guest Speaker: TBA

Location: Lejeune Memorial Gardens, 109 Montford Landing Road, Jacksonville, NC.

Note: In the case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be relocated to Bldg. M104 aboard Camp Johnson. Limited seating and base access required.

Itinerary:

Ceremony begins at 8:00 a.m.
Followed by self guided tour of the Montford Point Museum and Chapel. Base access required.
Friday Night entertainment available at The Point, 148 Brynn Marr Road.

Additional Information:

This is an outdoor event.

All personnel attending ceremony are subject to search by base PMO.

Limited parking at the Lejeune Memorial Gardens. Overflow parking across the street at the Veteran Cemetery. Shuttle service will be available from host hotel to Ceremony only. Museum visit not included in shuttle service.

Scholarship Golf Tournament, Thursday, 27 August 2026 at Paradise Point Golf Course

Motorcycle Memorial Ride, Saturday, 29 August 2026 at The Point. Registration 9am.
